101 Top web sites for ORM

Web 2.0, or the social Internet, has evolved and continues to grow with literally thousands of websites where users can register, post a profile, blog their daily thoughts, and share video and other media. For the business owner or website owner this offers a number of opportunities including the chance to promote and market their own business interests.

Many of the sites encourage active participation from other community members. Post a blog or upload a video clip and other users are not only able to view them but can comment and engage with the original poster. By building a community around an existing website or business it is possible to generate excellent social exposure and it can also help with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) efforts.

One of the greatest benefits of using major sites like Facebook, YouTube, Reddit and others is that they are considered authoritative sites in the eyes of the search engines. This in turn means that new profiles and posts on these pages and especially those with threaded and naturally keyword rich conversations can be used to promote pages for specific keywords.

For Online Reputation Management this also makes them highly beneficial tools in the attempt to bury bad press and fill the top search results for specific keywords, phrases, and names. By adding profiles and details to the sites listed in this guide it is possible to ensure that when potential customers search for your name or the name of your company they are presented with results that are managed by you and not by others.

The list of social websites is broken down into five main categories – social networking sites, blogging sites, social news sites, social media sites, and miscellaneous social sites. While the average small business or website would struggle to maintain a regular presence on each of the 101 sites it is possible to choose the most relevant and to stick with these. Alternatively, use an online reputation management service that can help to build, improve, or repair a reputation online.
